Pollyanna our donkey, 1972 - 2012
- 23rd October 2012
On Tuesday 25th September 2012, Pollyanna was put to sleep by our vet following a period of failing health. A combination of arthritis, difficulties with chewing and digesting food and a steady loss of body weight helped us decide to follow our vet’s advice and ensure that she did not suffer any further during the coming cold, wet winter.
Pollyanna celebrated her 40th birthday in August this year. As a youngster she lived at Taylor’s Wynd with the Hill family before making the short journey to Murton Farm 2 years ago where she quickly became the star attraction. Pollyanna has always been a friendly donkey and would happily bray across her paddock to welcome visitors. She has been a great help teaching young people how to care for animals and will certainly be missed by the Hill family, Murton staff, students and visitors alike.

Trust agreement set to continue
- Forfar Dispatch Thursday 5th May 2011

Under the agreement, the trust provides educational opportunities for small groups of pupils, particularly in respect of rural skills. Murton Trust near Forfar, in a non-profit making organisation which provides a range of services for young people and the wider community. In the last three years, pupils from Angus secondary schools have been attending Murton, to develop their skills and knowledge.
Welcoming the committee's approval, convener Peter Nield emphasised that working with outside organisations to enhance the skills and experiences of young people tied in with the aims of the new Curriculum for Excellence. "The new curriculum aims to achieve more flexible learning opportunities for young people" he added "It is undoubtedly the case that Murton provides opportunities for young people that are not always available in school. The developing partnership will allow young people to have personalised learning in a supportive environment that can lead to recognised work-related qualifications. That experience will also help young people prepare for employment."
It is expected around 100 pupils will benefit from attending Murton in any school session.
